Kibaale to Get UGX 25Bn Modern Market

The government under the Markets and Agricultural Trade Improvement Program-MATIP-2 is set to construct a sh.25 billion modern market in Kibaale district.

The market once constructed will help accommodate over 500 vendors currently operating in the daily Karuguza market that is situated in Ruguuza cell, Karuguza town council.

Councilors and other stakeholders in the district have unanimously agreed that the new market be constructed on the land accommodating the Kibaale Taxi Park in Kiziizi cell, Kibaale town council.

The contract for the construction of the multi-billion market project has been awarded to FENCON consult Company Limited.

Deo Gafabusa Karali, the Principal town Clerk Kibaale town council notes that steps have already been finalized and now they are waiting for the Architectural design from the contractor in order for the entire market project to commence soon.

Gabriel Fataka, an Engineer from FENCON consult Company limited says the construction work for the entire market will take four months.
He calls for team work between the councilors and other stakeholders in the district to ensure that the construction works go quickly and smoothly.

Godfrey Businge, the Secretary for works for Kibaale town council wants people who will be affected by the construction of the market project to be fairly compensated since some had already developed the site where the new modern market is to be located.

Jane Alinaitwe, a vendor working in Karuguza market calls for close monitoring and supervision of construction of the market by leaders and area residents to ensure that no shoddy works are executed on the market.

The market once completed will have restaurants, a clinic, a cold room for perishable items, a pharmacy and a parking yard among others.
