Kikuube district LCV chairman Peter Banura has warned security agencies against protecting land grabbers.
On Saturday, Banura and members of the district executive held a meeting with residents of Rwengabi village in Kabwoya Sub County, Kikuube district who are accusing police of being used by one tycoon to harass them.
More than 300 families are living in fear following threats of eviction by one William Mugabe, a prominent businessman who is claiming ownership of over 640 acres of land in Kabwoya.
The residents recently led by Patrick Okwairwoth, the area LCI Chairperson petitioned the district boss to intervene into their misery.
The residents says that Mugabe owns land that he titles covering 235 acres that he acquired near their ancestral land in the same village but he wants to use the same title to forcefully grab land belonging to locals that measures 470 acres.
They accused the Police and Uganda Peoples Defense Forces officers of allegedly conniving with Mugabe to evict them off their land.
While addressing the residents, Banura, said no person has a right to evict the residents without following the laws of the land.
He called on the residents to remain calm saying that they will not be evicted from their land and asked security agencies to stop being used by tycoons to harass the people they are supposed to protect.
Vincent Alpher Opio, the Kikuube LCV Vice-Chairperson expressed concern over the increasing land conflicts in the area saying its time leaders join hands to fight the vice.
