Several war veterans were turned away during their Verification exercise by Uganda Peoples Defense forces – UPDF in Bunyoro and Rwenzori regions after they presented fake documents.
While addressing the press last evening at Kikuube District Headquarters, Maj. Ninsiima Rwemijuma, the spokesperson for the Rwenzori-Bunyoro Veterans verification team explains that a good number of veterans were turned away since they lacked the required documents such as discharge books, National Identity cards and bank statement among others.

He added that others were found with mismatching and this forced the team to send such people away since they could not help them.
He adds that during the exercise they also arrested some deserts that had also turned up for the verification.
However, Maj. Ninsiima has advised the victims to get the reqiured documents and take them to the zonal veteran’s office in Kyanwanzi district or Bombo military office for verification

Lieutenant Eddy Baigana, the head of the verification says the exercise was aimed at verifying all the beneficiaries on the military pension payroll to ensure that they remove ghost beneficiaries.
The exercise is also targeting pension claimants and beneficiaries that have never accessed the payroll.
