A Police officer has been knocked dead in a motor accident along the Masindi- Kigumba Road that has left another officer critically injured.
The deceased police officer has been identified as Constable Kenneth Opio while the injured one is Constable Adam Kimungu both attached to Masindi central police station.
The accident occurred on Thursday at around 11:30am at Kyema cell in Karujubu division, Masindi Municipality along the Masindi-Kigumba road.
The officers were riding on a motorcycle registration number UP 9336 Yamaha when they had a head-on collision with a speeding tractor registration Number UBK 302D belonging to Kinyara Sugar Limited.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says Opio died on the spot while Kimungu who was critically injured has been rushed to Masindi hospital where he is currently admitted in critical condition nursing severe wounds.
He was injured in the head, chest and hands. According to Hakiza, the driver of the tractor took off to yet unknown destination after the accident.
The body of the deceased police officer has been picked and taken to Masindi hospital pending postmortem. The vehicle and the motorcycle that involved in the accident have been towed to Masindi central police station.
Hakiza says investigations have commenced to ascertain the exact cause of the fatal accident.
