Unidentified assailants have torched ten houses at Kyehoro landing site in Nkondo parish Kabwoya sub-county in Kikuube district destroying property worth millions of Shillings. The incident occurred around 1:30 am on Monday.
It is alleged that the assailants first raided the home of Beatrice Oweki where they torched three grass-thatched houses destroying all the property including mattresses, clothes, chairs and tables among others. They later rushed to Festo Omirambe’s home where they also set his house ablaze before they torched another house belonging to Jane Berochan.
The fire then spread to other houses. Kasanga Ofungi, the LC I Chairperson of Kyehoro landing site, says that the assailants took off when area residents sounded an alarm after several houses caught fire. He says that residents struggled to put off the fire in vain.
According to Ofungi, they have not yet established the motive behind the attack. He, however, says that there are no human casualties since all the people who were in the houses by the time they were torched were rescued.
Beatrice Oweki, one of the fire victims says they are currently out in the cold since all her three houses were torched. She wants police to expedite investigations into the fire to apprehend the suspects.
Foste Omirambe, another victim, says that he was sleeping in his house when the assailants torched it. He only woke up when he realized a lot of heat only to find his house was on fire. Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, says that police have commenced investigations.
