Street vendors in Hoima East City division under their umbrella Hoima east united street venders association have elected their leaders with an aim of benefiting from government projects.
This was during a training on leadership, unity and prosperity held at happy land gardens on Monday.
Steven Bazaale has been elected as association chairperson deputized by Jennet Avaco, Businge Kusemererwa is the secretary, Susan Birungi is the association treasurer, Erias Byenkya as the moblizer, Amon Ayesiga as defense and Susan Ajore for welfare.
Other committee members include Grace Kabajungu, Yunusu Kugonza, Moses Sanyu and Beatrice Tumwesige.
Susan Nafuna, the Hoima East Division Community Development Officer has asked the new board to work towards having a united voice to advocate for their rights.
She added that through their association, the vendors will be able to lobby for support from the government.
Nafuna says with the formation of an association, it is now going to be easy for the division to collect license from them, bridge the communication and improve service delivery.
Steven Bazaale, the newly elected chairperson says with the help of the city leadership, his committee will ensure that in the next financial year, all street vendors are allocated a market where they can operate.
