7 Perish in Boat Accident on Lake Victoria

Two residents of Masindi district have been killed in a boat accident on Lake Victoria.

The deceased identified as Gloria Amito and Irene Amito are among the seven people that were killed in the wee hours of Monday morning after the boat they were travelling on board from Lwanabatya Landing Site in Kyamuswa Sub County Kalangala district to Kasenyi landing site in Entebbe capsized in the lake.

There were nine people on the fishing boat. Four Women and 3 children drowned after their boat was hit by heavy winds.

The other deceased persons are; Irene Amiya and Caroline Afoyoloti. The remaining are 3 Children aged 4 and 2 years respectively. Amiya, Afoyoloti were heading to Nebbi District with their children.

The survivors include Lawrence Nzage, the coxswain and Patrick Lubulwa who escaped death by holding on a jerrican and fuel tank.

Ronald Sagala, a relative to deceased says search is on for the deceased’s bodies.
