Gulu University Injects UGX 188 Million to Refurbish Hoima Campus

The Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Prime Minister Andrew Byakutaaga has appealed to the people of Bunyoro region to utilize Gulu University Hoima campus so as to uplift education standards in the kingdom.

He made the remarks while speaking as the Guest of Honor at the ground breaking ceremony for the renovation of Gulu University premises for Hoima Campus on Wednesday. The university is being hosted at the Kingdom chamber buildings in Hoima City.

Gulu University has earmarked 188 million shillings to refurbish its campus in Hoima city.
Byakutaaga says the building is one of the historical buildings in Bunyoro kingdom and it was constructed in the 1960’s. It previously hosted many offices before the abolition of cultural institutions in 1967.

Byakutaaga adds the renovation of the building will not change its historical appearance but rather give it a new facelift. He has appealed to the people of Bunyoro to use the University adding that many children would wish to study in higher institutions but they are limited because of the distance.

George Openjur Ladaar the vice chancellor Gulu University says Gulu University partnered with the Royal Kingdom of Bunyoro to give affordable University education to the subjects of the King.
He adds that at least 294 learners have graduated from the university since its establishment in 2014.

The Campus Director Dr. Bonny Kyaligonza says the university is to increase on the number of courses it offers to learners.
The university has contracted De-Wats Company limited to renovate the university buildings in a period of six months.
