The former district councilor for Muhorro Sub County in Kagadi district Hon Medard Ahumuza has dismantled the offloading and loading tax check point erected at River Nkusi in Kabamba Sub County, Kagadi district.

The tax is levied on vehicles carrying agricultural produce and enforced at the borders of Kagadi district namely; Kyamutunzi, Paacwa and Buronzi. It is alleged that the tax collectors mount roadblocks at these border points to enforce the tax.

According to some receipts seen by Spice FM, vehicles carrying agricultural produce and alcohol are being charged between shs 100,000 and shs 180,000.

The collection of this tax has caused disharmony among the leaders as the traders continue to protest against the tax.

Ahumuza dismantled the roadblock on Saturday at around 6:00pm when the tax collectors blocked his vehicle from crossing the taxi collection point while on his way to Igayaza in Kakumiro district.
Speaking to Spice FM, Ahumuza has condemned the controversial tax which he says is illegal.
