The Police in Kakumiro District is holding a 30-year-old man for allegedly defiling and strangling to death his 13-year-old daughter.
The suspect has been identified as Tom Sebugwawo, a resident of Kitande village in Kyabasaija Sub County.
It is alleged that Sebugwawo on Sunday night at around 9pm approached his former wife Harriet Nakyanzi whom he separated with three years back and demanded to see his daughter.
When Nakyanzi refused, Sebugwawo forcefully grabbed the daughter and took her away.
However, on Tuesday morning residents were shocked when they discovered the girl lying dead in a nearby bush. The body had bruises on the neck and in the private parts.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says the post-mortem result conducted on the deceased indicates that she was raped before she was strangled to death.
He says the suspect who is at Kakumiro central police station will be arraigned before the court to be charged with rape and murder respectively.
