Unknown assailants have hacked to death a 40-year-old woman in Kakumiro district.
The deceased is Lilian Tugume Nnalongo, a resident of Mukatebe Village in Mwitanzige sub-county in Kakumiro district. Her lifeless body was found lying in a pool of blood inside her house Tuesday morning.
Jonathan Kyalikunda, the Mukatebe Village LC 1 Chairperson says he received information about the incident from the deceased’s daughter. According to Kyalikunda, the deceased who has been operating a restaurant in the area has been a peaceful and law-abiding citizen and wondered why the assailants targeted her.
The deceased was alone in the house by the time of the attack. Frank Ombaire, the Mwintanzige sub-county LC 3 Chairperson has condemned Nnalongo’s murder and called upon the police to expedite investigations into the murder.
Ismail Sendegeya, the Mwitanzige sub-county LC V councilor, says residents are living in fear following Nnalongo’s attack. He says that this is not the first for such an incident to happen in his area. He explains that at-least six people have been brutally murdered in the same manner in the area within three years.
He has cautioned members of the public to be vigilant with people they associate with and report suspicious elements to security. Edgar Kulayigye, the Kakumiro District Police Commander-DPC, says that police have launched investigations into the matter. He however says so far, no suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder.
The deceased’s body is lying at Kakumiro Health Center IV mortuary pending post-mortem. In March 2020, unknown assailants hacked to death a woman in Kagadi district. The deceased was identified as Joan Asaba, a resident of Kaitabahindi cell in Kagadi town council. Asaba’s lifeless body was found lying in a pool of blood near her house.
