According to the spokesperson for the Rwizi region Police, the incident involved two motor vehicles, namely UBN 375Q Subaru Forester and UBP314A Toyota Hiace in white, at Kahunga Trading Center along the Ntungamo-Mbarara road.
The victims have been identified as Manirakiza Moses (29), an engineer and resident of Burungu village, Muramba sub-county in Kisoro district, who was driving the Subaru Forester; Twesigye Kenneth (31), an engineer with the National Water and Sewerage Corporation and resident of Rwikiniro village, Ruhaama sub-county in Ntungamo district, a passenger in the Subaru Forester; and Mujurizi Herbert, also known as Rough, a resident of Rukungiri district and the driver of the taxi.
Thirteen occupants of the taxi (UBP314A) sustained injuries and were admitted to Itojo Hospital. The police spokesperson, Kasasira, shared that the Subaru driver, coming from Mbarara and heading to Ntungamo in rainy conditions, attempted to avoid running water on the road at Kahunga Trading Center. In doing so, he violated the right of way of the oncoming UBP 314A, resulting in a tragic head-on collision.
The bodies of the deceased have been transported to Itojo Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examinations. Both vehicles involved in the accident have been towed and are currently parked at Ntungamo police station awaiting inspection, as stated by Kasasira.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, it was revealed that Engineer Kenneth Twesigye had been introduced by his fiancée, Prize Patience, in Rukungiri district just a day before the accident.
The couple had plans to wed on Saturday, December 9th, 2023, at St. Luke Ntinda, with a subsequent celebration at Hotel Africana in Kampala. The untimely loss has left friends and family in mourning as they remember the lives of the three victims.
