In a gripping overnight mission, law enforcement successfully foiled an attempted aggravated robbery at the home of former legislator Mubarak Munyagwa. A bold gang, armed with machetes, had set their sights on breaching security, only to be intercepted by the police, resulting in the immediate arrest of one suspect at the scene.
The high-stakes drama unfolded in the early hours of January 3rd, at approximately 3 am, when Nsangi Territorial Police received a crucial tip about the impending criminal activity targeting Munyagwa’s residence in Kimbejja Cell, Budo Ward, Kyengera Town Council.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, lauded the rapid response of the Division Police Commander, who prevented the assailants from gaining entry to Munyagwa’s stronghold.
During the confrontation, Munyagwa’s vigilant security guard, Benjamin Mpaka, sustained a head injury while courageously fending off the machete-wielding intruders. He was swiftly transported to Mulago Hospital for medical attention, ensuring the safety of the individuals inside the residence.
Contrary to speculations circulating on social media, the police clarified that no shots were fired during the incident. To enhance their efforts, K9 units were dispatched to the scene, although their effectiveness was hindered by an unexpected downpour.
In the midst of the chaos, one suspect attempting to escape in a Datsun pick-up (registration number UAK 182A) was successfully apprehended. The captured suspect is currently in custody and is cooperating with the ongoing police investigations.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, Owoyesigyire commended Munyagwa for his prompt reporting, emphasizing its pivotal role in ensuring the safety of lives and property. Despite challenging weather conditions, the decisive action taken by the police underscores their unwavering commitment to upholding law and order.
